See the layout of Leaky Pipe with polytube running through this bedding and "rain-shadow" affected border!

Here you see a small section of a larger system where the Leaky Pipe is laid on the soil surface, among the bedding plants. The supply polytube continues under the hard-surfacing, onto borders that suffer from "rain-shadow". Here, two laterals of Leaky Pipe are used, sub-mulch, to water the herbaceous plants, shrubs & climbers without wetting the paving, walls or windows.

The polytube used would be 20mm LDPE polytube, but if a low amount of Leaky Pipe is needed to be supplied downstream, ie upto 50 metres, a smaller 12mm LDPE polytube can be used. The latter can easily be chased into the gap in the paving or run discreetly over an archway to provide a "link".

Typically, LP12H will be used for this type of system. For bedding schemes, it can be prudent to lay the Leaky Pipes a little closer than the usual 600mm(2ft) apart. Freshly planted bedding in the height of spring may need watering in from overhead to settle the soil around the roots, plugs or pots. After this, the plants should quickly wean-on to the water applied by the Leaky Pipes. Also, in bedding situations, it is usually unneccessary to bury the pipes as the rapid growth of the leaf canopy will cover them. This will make for easy reclamation of the pipes at grubbing time.
