In most park and garden situations, garden hose can be used for the "water supply network". However, hose is not very efficient at moving water without pressure loss so it can be limiting on larger domestic installations. The most economic small polytubes to use are 16mm and 20mm. They are black, reasonably flexible, cut with a pair of secateurs and accept our range of push-fit barbed fittings. The 16mm looks like a black hosepipe. The 20mm is a little bigger but is much superior at the job of transporting water around the garden in a fixed installation. Important point:- Just remember. "The bigger the area, the bigger the supply and pipework" or "The bigger the area, the more you have to split the area up into zones". |

All Leaky Pipe watering systems are based on a simple rule-of-thumb. The Leaky Pipe is placed where you want the water to be applied. The Leaky pipe or pipes are then connected to a non-porous pipe, (a polytube or hose), that supplies it with water. This pipe runs back to the water source via whatever route is available. On its journey it may also supply water to other areas at the same time. Because Leaky Pipe works at low pressure and low volume, it will gently water surprisingly large areas with very little effort. See technical information.

Important point:- There is no limitation to the size of area that can be watered directly with Leaky Pipe. The limitation on size depends on the strength of the water source and how the polytube distribution pipework is sized and installed. Were the water source becomes a limiting factor on the size of the system, split the total area up into "watering zones". Each of these zones can be switched manually or watered sequentially using "automatic" control equipment based on time. There are many levels of this! |
