It's not a pipe with holes in, it is a porous hose that seeps water all along its length. The Leaky Pipe or pipes can be laid on or into soils, sands & composts where the water it exudes moves from it by capillary action. Regular, but not constant watering helps maintain moisture levels in the root zone without overspray and evaporation. Normally, Leaky Pipe would be working unseen below the surface of soil, sand or compost. Sometimes it is just used on the surface of the soil but covered with a mulch of organic or inorganic materials. Of course, in these situations we cannot show you it working so we are showing Leaky Pipe here, just "up-in-the-air"!

Because Leaky Pipe works at low pressure and low volume, it will allow you to water large areas with small water sources. Its efficiency helps to make the best of the water while reducing running and labour costs to almost zero. If it is to weep evenly, there are certain limitations on how far you can expect a length of Leaky Pipe to "run" after its connection to the "carrier" pipe, . If you follow our guides for the selection of the correct pipes and the "plumbing", it is remarkably simple, effective and economical.
