A Hosepipe Ban means you are unable to use your hosepipe for watering the garden or plants in your garden at home.  It is intended to make the best use of valuable water supplies that are in short supply.  LeakyPipe has a similar ethos as it uses less water than a hosepipe for watering the garden, and it delivers water direct to the soil. It works even more efficiently used sub-surface under a layer of mulch or soil.

In hosepipe bans, drip or trickle irrigation systems are often permitted in the following circumstances:

• The system must be fitted with a pressure reducing valve and a timer
• The system must place water drip by drip directly onto the soil surface, or beneath the soil surface, without any surface run off. (LeakyPipe does this)

We have put a kit together which meets these requirements. The timer and adjustable pressure reducing valve are preassembled with PTFE tape.  The kit includes 50m of LeakyPipe, a hosesnap connector for easy hook up (hozelock compatible), and 2 simple push-fit plugs ends.

The LeakyPipe does not connect direct to the timer/pressure regulator and you will need to provide a length of hosepipe to carry the water from the timer to the LeakyPipe area. This avoids watering the in-between areas of paths, patios etc, unnecessarily.  Hosesnap / Hozelock type fittings are compatible.

You will need:

• 2x 1.5V AA batteries for the tap timer
• A length of non-leaking pipe eg hosepipe, to carry the water from the pressure regulator to the area you want to water with LeakyPipe. You will need female hozelock type connectors on your pipe.
• scissors or secateurs to cut the LeakyPipe to length,
• simple self-assembly using push-fit connectors which grip the inside of the LeakyPipe without the need for clips.
• Once you see the LeakyPipe working, cover with a layer of mulch or soil.

How and where to use this Hedge Watering Kit?

This is a great deal for raised borders, raised troughs or planters with a total area of up to 50m2. Kits includes push-fit connectors and options for Supply Pipe.

A comprehensive Kit to discreetly water up to 50m2 of raised beds or planters. Customise your kit by selecting sufficient connectors for 5-10 raised beds and choose between several options for supply pipe.

This kit includes lots of push-fit 'elbow' connectors to help fit an irrigation system to existing raised beds, borders, planters and troughs. You will need non-leaking supply pipe to carry the water up and over the wall of your bed. You can choose supply pipe to be included in your kit, or use small amounts of 1/2" garden hosepipe, which will also work with the connectors. Once at soil level, the pipe size 'reduces' down to that of LeakyPipe.  

The LeakyPipe can be laid on the surface or covered in mulch which helps water wicking away from the LeakyPipe. Arrange the LeakyPipe around your plants. Moisture spreads outwards for about 12 inches / 30cm either side. If you need to branch the LeakyPipe within the bed, 'tee' connectors are included, as are 'plugs' for the ends of LeakyPipe. A nail-in pipe clip keeps the pipe neatly in place on top of the wall of your raised bed / border. Lastly, a quick-connect hose-snap connector will allow connection to your garden hose.

This Hose Pipe Kits is Perfect to Water a Medium Sized Garden

LeakyPipe is a porous hose which weeps water along its length. It will irrigate up to 50m as a single length, but here, the connector supplied will allow you to cut your roll appropriately, then connect two lengths of LeakyPipe to run at once.  

A standard household tap pressure can water up to 300m LeakyPipe at once. So you you should be able to make all of this work, "all at once"!     

It is reasonably flexible so you can snake it back and forth to water your borders, beds and shrubs. Arrange as rings or spiral around newly planted trees to aid their establishment. It works most efficiently when covered by a mulch or soil as evaporation is reduced.

Overall you use less water with LeakyPipe than watering by hand and it will work out-of-sight whilst you enjoy your garden.

To complete the system you will need:

• 2x 1.5V AA batteries for the timer

During construction, a 'riser' is created within the raised bed. At the soil surface, the compression elbow fitting will bring the pipe work level with the soil surface and allow connection to 2 lengths of LeakyPipe with simple push-fit barbed fittings. The LeakyPipe is laid amongst your plants on the surface of the soil or under a shallow layer of mulch/soil.  The LeakyPipe ends are sealed with the included plugs.  Overall this gives a neat look as the riser pipe and LeakyPipes will get covered by soil and not be visible.

Compression fittings are ideal for use in situations that would be difficult to access for maintenance at a later date.  These are great quality compression fittings and are the ones we choose to use ourselves, owing to their reliability.

Options include size 20mm or 25mm supply pipe.  Choose which size you would like and all connectors will automatically be swopped to your chosen size.
